For my class in Human Factors at Carnegie Mellon University, I explored researching and addressing issues experienced by physically disabled users when using self-checkout systems at a local grocery store.

After a cursory literature review which pointed me toward current issues, I conducted two user interviews and a task analysis.

Following a brainstorming and visioning process, I designed a more accessible self-checkout system, which improves many of the anthropometric issues noted in the user study. My final deliverable, a report containing all of my work, is available here [pdf].
