What I Do

I design products with the end-user in mind. I am comfortable with gathering research through contextual inquiry and task analysis, with envisioning personas and creating storyboards, with testing prototypes through evaluation heuristics and think aloud evaluations, and with speaking to developers on the designs the research has informed.

In addition to my passion for user experience, I have an educational background in computer science. I know my way around an object, can describe my favorite O(n log n) sorting algorithm (spoiler: it's quicksort), and I've defun-ed a function or two in my time. This experience is most valuable in couching my recommendations to development teams—I know what can easily or not-so-easily be accomplished.

Where I Am

I am currently a User Experience Researcher and Designer in the HCI Group at NASA Ames Research Center. I received a master's degree in Human–Computer Interaction at the Human–Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Before that, I received a bachelor's degree in computer science from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. My formative years were spent in the rolling hills of Ottumwa, Iowa. I am always interested in new design collaborations or projects.
